COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has announced the retirement of K9 Jari after a seven-year career of service to the citizens of Bartholomew County. K9 Jari will retire to the life of a family pet with his handler, Deputy Brandon Sellers, and will reside with his family.
Police dogs play an essential role for BCSO in several aspects, including drug detection, suspect apprehension, and public outreach initiatives at the Sheriff’s Office.
K9 Jari and Deputy Sellers have been involved in hundreds of law enforcement actions over the years.
The addition of K9 Jari to BCSO was made possible in 2019 after Janet Buchanan, a private citizen, made a sizable donation to the K9 program.
Deputy Sellers is continuing his law enforcement career with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office as he returns to his home county. Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane said, “We wish him good luck in his future endeavors and for him to continue his successful law enforcement career in Morgan County.”
