COLUMBUS, Ind. – Lt. Rick Mullis, a 41-year veteran of the Columbus Fire Department (CFD), has retired. He joined the Columbus Fire Department in 1984 and officially retired on June 9. CFD extended its gratitude to Lt. Mullis for his “faithful years of service to the department and the community.”
Inspector Andy Johns has received a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant. Lt. Johns has been with the department since 2015 and has served in the Inspection and Investigation Division since 2024. He will remain assigned to the Inspection and Investigation Division.
Firefighter Samantha Smith has also been advanced to the rank of Lieutenant. Lt Smith has served with the Columbus Fire Department since 2017. She has been assigned to Battalion B and will serve as a company officer at Fire Station 1.
The promotions are effective immediately.
