NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded last Friday evening to a residence regarding a theft of prescribed medication. Deputies spoke with the victim and discovered that the medication prescribed was for a terminal illness.
The elderly victim said she had sent her granddaughter’s boyfriend to a local pharmacy to retrieve the prescribed medication on her behalf, due to her immobility. After he delivered it to her, she counted the pills and realized the bottle did not contain the correct amount.
Deputies contacted Donnie Zimmerman, 50, of North Vernon, at his residence. During questioning, he told them the car he used to pick up the pills was parked in the driveway. Zimmerman gave officers consent to search the vehicle. JCSO allegedly found a loose pill matching the stolen prescription medication and Zimmerman was taken into custody.
During further investigation, a syringe, additional drug-related items, and methamphetamine were also supposedly located. While questioning him, the suspect reportedly told law enforcement he had already sold most of the prescription pills that he had stolen.
