COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Mental Health Matters Bartholomew County Initiative has announced a new mental health resource program is being offered to local Veterans. Over 8,030 Veterans take their lives every year.
To address the needs of local Veterans a new group in Columbus, spearheaded by BCSC high school senior Chelsie Santiago-Ramos and two of the Mental Health Matters (MHM) Initiative Health Equity Ambassadors, has started its service. Chelsie came up with the mental health group support idea to help her uncle, who is a veteran.
She has been a champion in spearheading the conversations with the local American Legion and the Veterans Affairs office. She connected with the local Health Equity Ambassador, who connected with another Health Equity Ambassador for help.
Facilitated by Dr. Myriam L. Graham, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, the group meets Mondays at 5 p.m., at Graham and Associates, 1704 Central Ave, in Columbus. The group’s purpose is to bring together veterans who have dealt with or are dealing with similar difficult circumstances around basic needs such as housing, mental health, and wellness.
Dinner is provided at every meeting. For more information on the group, call or text 812-995-1609.
