NORTH VERNON, Ind. – On August 14 of this year, the City of North Vernon Fire Department (NVFD) and Jennings County EMS responded to a soccer practice where the coach had gone into cardiac arrest.
Other coaches and players began CPR and attached an automated external defibrillator (AED). The man was shocked once before emergency personnel arrived and the AED was used again by EMS when they arrived.
The coach regained his pulse and was flown to Indianapolis where he underwent further treatment. Due to the quick actions of the coaching staff, players, and emergency personnel, the coach recovered and walked out of the hospital.
NVFD and Jennings County EMS honored these coaches, players, and emergency responders during the North Vernon City Council meeting this past Monday night.
