COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) says that ninth graders at Columbus North and Columbus East High Schools recently participated in the Mad City Money simulation, sponsored by Financial Literacy Coalition Bartholomew County.
With help from community volunteers, BCSC students practiced budgeting by visiting merchants to purchase housing, transportation, food, and more—just like in real life. They also faced the “fickle finger of fate,” dealing with unexpected expenses or surprise bonuses.
This hands-on experience helped students develop smart spending habits, prepare for financial decisions, and understand the importance of budgeting for the future.
