GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Greenwood Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 800 Padre Lane after receiving a report of a missing four-year-old female on Sunday, at 9:14 p.m.
A Greenwood Police Department officer located the child in a body of water behind a nearby residence at 9:15 p.m., immediately entered the water, removed the child, and began CPR. At 9:18, Greenwood Fire Department crews took over patient care from the officer.
Within 10 minutes the child had arrived at a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Initial reports indicate she was in town visiting with family. Several family members were actively looking for her for about an hour before calling 911.
At this time, authorities do not know what drew the child to the water and the circumstances that led up to her entering it. More information will be released when it becomes available.
