NORTH VERNON, Ind. — At the North Vernon City Council meeting on Monday, Graham Heffelfinger was sworn in as a new police officer for the North Vernon Police Department (NVPD).
Clerk-Treasurer Charlie Weber revealed that the Council will need to use their remaining ARPA funds ($1,483,651) by the end of this year. Weber suggested using the funds on the pickleball court, tennis courts, baseball turf, the last quarter of health insurance, and business insurance renewal for the next fiscal year.
North Vernon Main Street Director Autumn Moore was officially approved as the new part-time event coordinator for the city for a yearly fee of $10,000. Her duties will be separate from Main Street activities and they will be performed outside of Main Street hours.
Lastly, Mayor Shawn Gerkin mentioned the City has acquired the Arvin building on S. Madison Avenue, behind Iron Benders. Gerkin said the former owners are required to clean up the property before they will receive payment.
