NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) collaborated to apprehend a suspect after he fled from a traffic stop on Tuesday.
JCSO attempted to pull over a car traveling 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, but instead of stopping, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
NVPD deployed stop sticks near Franklin and State Streets. The driver, later identified as Gavin Henry, tried to avoid police by turning onto Scott Street. However, he was going too fast and he crashed. The vehicle was disabled.
After a search, law enforcement allegedly discovered drugs and drug-related items. Henry was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and, upon medical clearance, was escorted to the Jennings County Jail.
He was remanded on the following preliminary charges:
- Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony
- Reckless Driving – Class C Misdemeanor
- Possession of Legend Drug – Level 6 Felony
- Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
