COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Bartholomew County Court has convicted and sentenced a man in the 2024 Vibe nightclub shooting on Wednesday, July 30.
In October 2024, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) responded to The Vibe nightclub in response to multiple calls of shots fired in the area of the nightclub. Officers learned a fight had taken place outside the club and that Pedro Rivera-Ayala allegedly discharged several rounds from a firearm.
A bystander was struck in the torso with a bullet and was flown to I.U. Health Methodist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
CPD arrested Rivera-Ayala and later charged him with Reckless Homicide following the death of the victim.
On Wednesday, Rivera-Ayala was convicted of Reckless Homicide, a Level 5 felony, and sentenced by Judge James Worton of the Bartholomew County Superior Court 1 to the maximum confinement of six years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction.
The sentencing range for a Level 5 felony is one year to six years, with an advisory sentence of three years.
