GREENWOOD, Ind. – (UPDATE: 11:55) – The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) and the Greenwood Police Department (GPD) reported to the scene of a small plane crash near the intersection of E. Main Street and Sheek Road, near I-65, on Wednesday morning, July 30.
(UPDATE -12:40) – LND has received from a reliable source that the small passenger plane, identified as N49BX – 2005 LANCAIR IVP, belongs to Boeing 747 pilot, Purdue University graduate, and founder of Asian Women in Aerospace & Aviation, Anh-Thu Nguyen from Miami Beach, Florida.
Flight logs on FlightAware.com confirm that a 2005 Lancair IVP belonging to Anh Thu Nguyen landed at Indy South Greenwood Airport on Tuesday at 8:29 p.m. and took off from Indy South Greenwood today, Wednesday, at 10:45 a.m.
Original: Along with GFD and GPD, the Indiana State Police responded to a report of an aircraft accident at Main Street and South Park Boulevard. Initial reports indicated that a small plane had crashed behind the Circle K gas station at 1183 E. Main St. in Greenwood.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a small aircraft that had gone down directly behind the gas station. The female pilot, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, there is no information about the plane’s origin, destination, or the cause of the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified, are en route, and will handle the investigation.
