FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is warning residents about an increase in impersonation scam calls where someone is claiming to be a member of their department.
Fraudsters are claiming to be Maj. Andy Fisher from the Sheriff’s Office as they attempt to extort money from Johnson County citizens by professing they have a warrant for the resident’s arrest for a tax issue or a fine.
The scammers sometimes use spoofing techniques where the number of a legitimate office or business appears on the caller ID.
JCSO reminds residents that it will never conduct that nature of business over the phone, and any call received is most likely a scam.
