COLUMBUS, Ind. – Dispatch at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received a call about a possible drunk driver on southbound I-65, near the 76-mile marker, at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday.
A deputy located the red SUV and followed it, observing driving behavior indicative of intoxication. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle failed to pull over, and the driver continued to drive erratically.
A brief pursuit began but came to an end near mile marker 65 when the suspect’s SUV came to a stop. Jeffery Lewis II, 37, of Indianapolis, was taken into custody without incident. BCSO deputies said alcohol containers were allegedly found inside his vehicle.
He was taken to Columbus Regional Health for a blood draw as part of an OWI investigation. Jeffery was then transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and preliminarily charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle and Operating While Intoxicated.
He remains in custody on a $7,500.00 bond. This is a preliminary investigation. All persons are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
