COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Fire Department, and the Indiana State Police collaborated on another successful Operation Safe Prom demonstration Thursday morning for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) students.
Because local law enforcement wants students to have a safe prom night, the event simulates the dangers of driving and making bad decisions. BCSC staff, actors, and volunteers join with law enforcement to make the presentation seem as real as possible for the students watching.
Junior and senior high school students watched a reenactment of a vehicle crash involving an impaired driver and learned the dangers of getting behind the wheel while under the influence. Operation Safe Prom is meant to deter impaired (drunk) and distracted (texting) driving.
The BCSC Prom, “I’ve Got a Dream! Prom 2025!“ is this Saturday evening, May 3, at The Commons.
