VERNON, Ind. – Friends of Historic Vernon was awarded a grant from MHS Serves Broad Band Access Strategic Partnership last week.
The funds from the grant will be used to bring broadband internet to the Vawter Recreation Center, otherwise known as the Vernon Gym. Included will be six computers for public use within the recreational center. Public wifi will also be available across the facility and projected to the soccer complex.
This grant alone brings wifi and internet access to the general public at the facility and also directly supports programming partners such as the Jennings County Public Library (JCPL), Boys and Girls Club, and Muscatatuck United.
“We are overwhelmingly grateful to the members of Friends of Historic Vernon and JCPL for writing this grant for our community,” said Wayne Zamora, the mayor of Vernon. “Many households across Jennings County do not have access to high speed or quality internet. Additionally, many households may not have a home computer. This new amenity helps bridge the gap for both challenges. The goal is to have internet access available within the recreational center by the end of the year.”
