DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles Post responded to State Road 3, north of Greensburg, in Decatur County, shortly after 6 a.m. on Wednesday, for a two-vehicle head-on crash that resulted in a fatality.
The initial investigation by ISP crash reconstructionists indicated that an SUV, driven by Adam P. Peters, 36, of Morristown, Ohio, was traveling southbound on S.R. 3 near County Road 300N. For an unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a northbound box truck operated by Jamin E. Guthrie, 39, of North Vernon.
The vehicles collided nearly head-on in the roadway. After the collision, both vehicles came to rest partially off the roadway.
Peters sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Decatur County Coroner’s Office. Guthrie received minor injuries in the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Toxicology tests are pending at this time but ISP says alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors.
State Road 3 was closed for approximately four hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
