COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus resident is in custody after a report of shots fired Sunday night. Columbus Police Department (CPD) officers responded to a report of “shots fired” in the 2900 block of Silver Fox Drive, at around 10:30 p.m.
The initial inquiry determined that there was a fight at the home between a male and a female. The female ran to a neighbor’s house to call the police as the male allegedly fired shots from a handgun.
When CPD arrived at the scene, the male refused to come out of his house. CPD SWAT, the Crisis Negotiations Team, and detectives eventually convinced the man to exit and he was taken into custody.
The female reported minor injuries from the altercation and was taken to the Columbus Regional Health. Investigators are still looking into the injuries to determine if any of them came from the shots being fired. Multiple bullets were found lodged in the neighbor’s house.
Brent Clayburn, 59, of Columbus, was arrested on preliminary charges of domestic battery with a deadly weapon (level 5 felony), criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, (level 5 felony), and criminal confinement with a deadly weapon (level 3 felony).
The investigation is ongoing. All charges are merely accusations and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
