COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Emergency Management says the National Weather Service has forecasted excessive heat for Tuesday and Wednesday. The extreme summer temperatures are predicted to be in the mid-90s with heat index values of about 105 degrees.
Hot temperatures can pose a serious threat to health and safety, especially to vulnerable populations. Two local facilities are opening their doors as Cooling Stations on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide temporary relief.
The main branch of the Bartholomew County Public Library (BCPL) in downtown Columbus is available to cool down from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Hope branch of BCPL, on Harrison Street, is open on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
