COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) was called Thursday afternoon to the scene of a reported fire involving a train, near Bartholomew County Stadium, at Spears Street and Jonesville Road (State Road 11).
When firefighters arrived, they said they found no evidence of an active fire. Louisville and Indiana Railroad representatives told CFD that smoke and flames were visible at one point while the train was traveling.
Firefighters found a small fire within an engine car which was put out with a fire extinguisher.
According to Louisville and Indiana representatives, the train involved was not transporting materials.
For a short period, traffic could not access County Road 200S from Jonesville Road. The roadway reopened just after 4:30 p.m.
