COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tyler Cooper observed a vehicle traveling on 22nd Street on Thursday and recognized its driver as Sarah Caffee, 32, of Columbus. Cooper knew that Caffee’s driving privileges had been suspended so he tried to initiate a traffic stop.
The car initially failed to pull over and sped away for several blocks before coming to a stop. Both occupants, Caffee and a male later identified as Donovan Martin, 27, of Columbus, exited and fled on foot.
Law enforcement flooded the area and located Caffee nearby on Newton Street and he was taken into custody without further incident. Martin was also found nearby and apprehended.
A search of the vehicle allegedly discovered narcotics and drug-related items. Law enforcement found more drugs and paraphernalia in the area of the foot chase that Martin supposedly dropped.
The driver told deputies that she did not stop the vehicle because Martin threatened her with a handgun and instructed her to continue driving. A firearm was not located in the car or the pursuit area.
Caffee was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Possession of a Syringe, Reckless Driving, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Possession of Paraphernalia. She remains in BCSO custody on a $10,000 bond.
Martin was arrested for Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of a Syringe, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Possession of Paraphernalia. He remains in custody on a 72-hour hold.
