COLUMBUS, Ind. – Over the last two weeks, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) has conducted 241 traffic stops near North National Road (US 31) and 25th Street. Law enforcement has been getting several calls about left turn violations.
Because of construction on National Road, lane closures have been instituted, and left turns are temporarily prohibited at its intersection with 25th Street. After receiving complaints about drivers turning left despite the no-left turn signs, CPD has stepped up patrols in that area.
Turning left from North National Road backs traffic up and can be dangerous with the obstructed views. The lane restrictions are expected to continue until August.
Officers will continue to conduct focused patrols at the intersection. Motorists traveling through that area should slow down, drive safely, and follow the traffic laws to keep everyone safe.
