NORTH VERNON, Ind. – North Vernon Mayor Shawn Gerkin will travel to Indianapolis on Thursday, April 11, to hear how Indiana’s 92 counties will share $500 million of READI 2.0 funds.
READI 2.0, part of the governor’s 2023 Next Level Agenda and approved by the Indiana General Assembly, was a direct response to the significant demand for quality-of-place investments from communities across the state.
The READI 2.0 funding proposals outline each region’s vision for its future. As Gerkin explained, Jennings County is part of the South Central group which is led by Southern Indiana Housing and Community Development Corporation, and also includes Bartholomew and Jackson Counties and the Town of Edinburgh.
Its proposal themes are to inspire and cultivate collaboration among companies and communities to build powerful technologies, prosperous communities, and a resilient future by focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship, education and workforce development, housing, and quality of place.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will review and assess the submitted plans before making formal recommendations to the IEDC board of directors on April 11.
