The band Hawk Nelson is gearing up for a new record. Lead singer Jon Steingard tweeted over the weekend that the new year meant writing was starting in earnest for a new Hawk Nelson record. He added that it’s “Exciting and scary and inspiring to see God work in these times.”

Aaron Shust was excited to be playing in Atlanta at Turner Field over the weekend. He pointed out that, while he was playing at an event called Winter Wonderland, he was actually leaving winter behind. Aaron tweeted that there were five inches of snow on the ground in his home state of Pennsylvania.

The members of the Sidewalk Prophets say an historic event took place over the New Years holiday. Their bass player, Cal Joslin, sent out his very first tweet. But in the open letter she said “I am resting in God’s love for me and the finished work of the cross.” Darlene shared a song written by a fellow worship leader specifically for her in her time of need. The YouVersion Bible app has released its year-end analysis of how its millions of users engaged the Bible this past year. According to the report in Christianity Today, YouVersion users shared 68 million Bible verses in 2013. The Bible verse that was “bookmarked, highlighted, and shared … more than any other verse” in 2013 was Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Rounding out the top five: Isaiah 40:31, Matthew 6:13, Joshua 1:9, and Philippians 4:6. By comparison, the Bible’s most-read chapter was Romans 8. It was read four times per second in 2013. The other top chapters were Romans 12, Matthew 5, 1 John 4, and Hebrews 12.

Josh Wilson is finding that being a talented artist isn’t always a much fun. He said he’d just finished singing the Veggie Tales theme song 312 times with his nephew.

Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman were experiencing a little dejavu over the weekend. Mary Beth tweeted that they were back in Paducah, Kentucky, and stopped by the gazebo in Noble Park, the spot where Steven asked her to marry him 30 years ago.

Jamie Grace says more stories will be coming on her I’m a Fighter web site in 2014. Jamie suffers from Turettes Syndrome and, when she was 14, she started a foundation called I’m A Fighter hoping to encourage other kids just like her. Now the web site regularly features stories of others who are fighting battles in their own lives. Mercyme lead singer Bart Millard says the week between Christmas and New Years is an odd time of the year. He said Christmas is over, New Years is not quite here, People sorta go back to work, but not really.

Over the holidays, worship leader Darlene Zschech revealed on her church website that she was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. According to a report on the Breathecast Christian music website, the worship leader best known for the song Shout to the Lord joined her husband in revealing the news to their congregation in Australia. In the release Darlene said that, on Wednesday, December 11, at a routine mammogram, doctors discovered that I had developed breast cancer. Since then, it has been a whirlwind of appointments, scans and surgery. Darlene added that, Even though the past days have been very tough at times, the Holy Spirit has brought me endless comfort and the Word of God is literally holding me moment by moment”. Chris Tomlin recently talked with Christianity Today about worship, justice, humility, and leading people to experience God. Chris has just come off one of the most successful years in his career. The Burning Lights tour launched early in 2013 following the album’s number 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. And Chris’ music has been touted as the most sung music in the world. But Chris told Christianity Today “I think the minute I start leading them to myself, all this will start being taken away, because that’s not what it’s about.” He added “That’s my job—to lead people. Mike Scheuchzer was taking on a major task this weekend. The Mercyme guitarist said he was undertaking a 7 hour, 360 mile trip with 4 kids, 1 puppy, and 2 bunnies.

Matthew West was looking back at 2014 this weekend. He tweeted that they were remembering their awesome Storytellers Cruise to Alaska by enjoying some King Salmon they caught on the cruise.

Natalie Grant was introducing her daughters to her favorite movie of all time over the weekend. She tweeted that they were watching Sound of Music.

Britt Nicole was reviewing her best memories of 2013. She tweeted that she had a blast getting to meet so many of her fans on the road. But she added that nothing could beat welcoming her beautiful baby girl into the world.

Who made the best music in 2013? The Christian music web site New Release Tuesday wrapped up the year with their We Love Christian Music Awards. And they’ll be revealing the winners live from The Roadshow 2014. Headlined by Skillet and Third Day, the road show will also feature Jamie Grace and sis other groups. Mercyme will be sitting out the Roadshow for the first time since they started the tour a half decade ago.

Chris Huffman is back. The bass player for Casting Crowns tweeted that, for the first time in almost 4 months, all seven of the Crowns were together. They met over the weekend for 2014 tour planning. Chris has been on hiatus from the group while his infant son waited for a heart transplant.

Jesse Garcia was back on the tour bus over the weekend. And the Building 429 member tweeted it’s getting harder and harder to leave home.

Third Day is playing a series of tour dates between Christmas and New Years called xtreme winter. But Tai Anderson didn’t let the holiday tour cut into his family time. He took an early flight home Saturday so that he could watch his son Cole’s final middle school All Star game before meeting up with the band for their concert that evening.

Dave Frey had a scare over the weekend. The lead singer of The Sidewalk Prophets tweeted that he and his mom flipped in their van on I-70 coming home from Christmas shopping over the weekend. Dave said they were very sore but otherwise fine. He tweeted: God protected us and we’re thanking Jesus for another day to praise. Dave added: Love on your family this Christmas. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

The group announced this week that, after four years with the group, the lead guitarist is moving in another direction that will allow him to spend a lot more time at home with his family. The GSN Television Network has given the green light to a new original series titled It Takes a Church. In each one-hour episode of IT TAKES A CHURCH, hosted by Natalie Grant, members of a Christian congregation play matchmaker in a competition to help an unattached fellow parishioner find their match. Good news from Casting Crowns bass player Chris Huffman. After a day shy of 16 weeks, Chris’ infant son Silas this week was able to go home. Several weeks ago Silas received a heart transplant. And while they’re excited to finally be taking Silas home, Chris says prayers would be appreciated as they adapt to the new normal of a son with a transplanted heart.

A new poll Finds that the French Penned song “O Holy Night” is the UK’s Favorite Christmas Carol. The song received 15 percent of the vote, beating out Hark The Herald Angels Sing, In the Bleak Mid Winter, Silent Night, and Joy to the World. The rest if the Top 10 also included: O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem, O come O Come Emmanuel, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, and Away in a Manger in that order.

Josh Wilson’s song Jesus is Alive was used this year to complete an amazing Christmas display. The creators of the light display say their goal is to use their lights to bring Glory to our Savior. The display featured over 100,000 LED lights, a huge 110 foot Mega Arch that spans the two story house, 4 Mega trees, and 100 Christmas trees on display. Greg and Janna Long are back home in Texas just in time for a busy Christmas season. The husband and wife team that makes up half of the group Avalon say the church they help lead worship at will host over the 30 Christmas Eve services this year. However, Greg did add that he and Janna will only have to be part of 12 of those services.
