The Christian music web site New Release Tuesday was having fun celebrating April fools day. Continuing their tradition of writing fictious news stories about Christian artists, the web site released the following news stories:
1. The creation of a DC Talk Returns web site
2. Mikeschair and Lazyboy teaming up for a line of faith-based furniture.
3. Rebecca St. James, Skillet Drummer Jen Ledger, Barlow Girl member Alyssa Barlow, and former Superchick member Melissa Brock joining together to form the Newsgirls
4. The Winter Jam tour partnering with Smuckers for “Winter Jam” assorted jellies.
5. A new Hymns CD from Family Force 5 that includes, among others, a duet of Amazing Grace by tedashii and Bill Gaither.

The members of Hawk Nelson were celebrating April Fools. They announced a legal battle with bird conservationist means they will no longer be able to go by their current band name. So they asked for new band name suggestions from their fans.

Shane and Shane celebrated April fools day by announcing that they had decided to switch names. So now Shane B is Shane E and Shane E is Shane B.

On April 1 Colton Dixon announced that he’d finally decided to cut his hair off, opting instead for a buzz cut. But it seems that his fans weren’t amused. He quickly followed up with a second tweet that said: April fools. Calm Down, it’s just hair!

The Relevant Magazine released a list of some of the best April Fools pranks of the day. They include the release of a Selfie bot, a drone that follows you taking random selfies, shakeless Tic-Tac containers, and a new Cheetos fragrance. Read the entire report by clicking on the link at

Chris Tomlin recently shared the heartbeat of Passion written by Louie Giglio, the pastor of the Passion organization in Atlanta. Chris shared that the heart of organization is to see Jesus lifted high, not just in an event arena, but in the everyday arenas of real life. And that happens not because of a conference, and it’s not measured in a four-week mission trip. It happens when God switches a light on inside of you and you begin altering your view of every single environment you find yourself in – day in and day out.

Aaron Shust was back home after a weekend of tours in Kansas. And he used technology to allow him to stay home with his family while also continuing to work on his new Christmas project. Producers were recording choir tracks for the project in Nashville while Aaron watched from Pennsylvania via facetime. Aaron says the choir tracks sound strong and he can’t wait to hear it all together.

A thought from Building 429 member Aaron Branch: My heart goes out to those who are constantly waiting on the right person with the intention of not settling. Aaron added: No one is even close to perfect. The one God has for you may be right in front of your face! I’m thankful my wife saw past my imperfections.

Christian Artist Josh Wilson pointed out this week that, although they share the same name, he and Texas Rangers baseball player Josh Wilson don’t have a lot in common. Josh, the artist, has a beard while Josh, the baseball player does not. They both have different careers. And their yearly salary is a little bit different. Josh, the baseball player, makes $650,000 per year. Josh, the artist, says his salary is a little bit less than that.

Darlene Zschech says chickens make the perfect Easter gift. Hope Global, the Christian relief organization Darlene helped to start, is kicking off their Chickens for Change campaign this month. They hope to raise enough money to help New Hope Homes in Rwanda purchase 150 chickens to expand their agricultural program. Read more by clicking on the link at

Mark Schultz says he never knows what new pet he’ll come home to when returning from his latest tour. Mark tweeted: My wife has a knack for adopting animals at the shelter when I’m away on tour. Attached was a picture of their new dog Miss Bubbles Larue, his wife’s latest addition to the family.

I was really scared…and didn’t know if I was going to be able to continue in music. Two passages of scripture especially came to comfort me during this time – Psalm 23 and Zephaniah 3:17. As it would turn out, after the diagnosis and surgery on my vocal cords, the Lord blessed me and returned my voice to better than its’ even been before. Tiffany Lee is a new mother. No, the artist that goes by the stage name Plumb has not had a baby. But she did introduce Rylee Grace this week. Rylee is her four week old god daughter. Tiffany added: I am one blessed lady!

Robbie Seay played an acoustic set for a good cause over the weekend. The concert was at the Houston FCA Golf tournament.

Tenth Avenue North member Mike Donehey tweeted over the weekend: Playing shows is cool, but dancing with your four year old during sound check is far better.

David Crowder recently made consuming Subway turkey sandwiches and international experience. The band Crowder is touring right now with the Passion Global Team. And he tweeted: Today I consumed three subway turkey sandwiches. One in Singapore, one in Tokyo, one in Honolulu.

Bart Millard says he has always hated the phrase “God won’t give you more than you can handle”. The lead singer of Mercyme said: Sure He will. Hence the desperate need for a savior.

Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman announced the birth of their second grand daughter over the weekend. They say Della Rosamond Richards was born to their daughter and son-in-law on Saturday. They say both mother and daughter are doing well.

Angie Smith’s book What Women Fear is now available in German. The wife of Selah lead singer Todd Smith announced the translation of her book over the weekend.

Roma Downey is the force behind the recent movie Son of God. And she tweeted over the weekend that her favorite song on the sound track is Francesca Battistelli’s rendition of Oh, Son of God. Check out the music video for the song by clicking on the link at

Greg Long is considering hibernation. The member of the group Avalon tweeted: Is is possible that I could fall asleep and wake up AFTER allergy season?

Casting Crowns lead singer Mark Hall was wearing his youth pastor hat over the weekend. He baptized a number of kids in his youth group and says it was an awesome experience. Mark says Casting Crowns mainly tours between Thursday and Saturday so the members of the band can spend time working at their jobs in the local church Sunday through Wednesday.

Now that the Worship Initiative has been fully funding, Shane and Shane say they are ready to dig deeper into the project designed to help worship leaders in the local church. They say great things are coming soon. The sight already features multiple training videos and other resources.

Ben McDonald was making good use of his time after locking himself out of the house. The Sidewalk Prophets guitarist said he had been locked out for three hours and was using the time as a good excuse to clean out the garage.

A song written by Christy Nockels is helping with a special adoption journey. The Donahues are hoping to go to Haiti to adopt a boy named Jordan. And Passion worship leader Christy Nockels has written a song called We’re on Our Way to help in their fund raising effort. It’s only available on the Donahues web site. Jimmy Needham left on his latest tour over the weekend. But there were a couple of difference in Jimmy’s tour this time. Rather than touring around the United States, Jimmy will be making stops in Asia and Australia. And he will also be joined by his family. Jimmy Needham says your prayers would be appreciated as he spends three weeks “doing Jesus music for folks around the world.”

It wasn’t easy but Matthew West joined the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for their festival in Mississippi over the weekend. Matthew says they had some bus trouble but they were still able to make it to the event. He led the crowd in worship before Will Graham brought the message on the final night of the crusade. The members of Love and the Outcome tweeted on Sunday: After 60 shows, 140 new friends, and a million amazing memories Winter Jam 2014 is over. The concert series with the Newsboys and many other groups wrapped up in Omaha.

Nigel James is the pastor that travels with Third Day when they are out on tour. And Nigel recently shared a recap of the devotions he has been sharing with the band on their latest tour with Skillet, Brandon Heath, and Mandisa. Nigel says they have been focusing on “one another” verses in a discussion centered around being more effective at honoring each other, building each other up, and encouraging each other. The month of March is at an end and Mandisa is reminding the Word Warriors that they should have Romans 5:7-8 memorized. The April verse will be announced soon. In the mean time, Mandisa also says to keep sending the scripture images based on the verses for the month of March.

Shane and Shane have wrapped up their kickstarter raising money to create an online worship initiative and also record a new CD titled Psalms II. The initial goal of $100,000 for the Worship Initiative was reached with ample time remaining so the two Shane’s increased the goal to $150,000, allowing them to also record the album. This past weekend, with just hours to spare, the second goal was also reached. More then 1,200 backers committed to help Shane and Shane fund the project.

Jamie Grace was a guest on the Yolanda Adams Morning Show late last week. Jamie talked about her songs Do Life Big and Beautiful Day during her live appearance.

The Hawk Nelson song Words has been honored by the music organization SESAC. The song from the album Made was given a SESAC award after being a Billboard Christian Hot AC/CHR Top 10 single for 22 weeks. Meanwhile, another song from the project is also available. Hawk Nelson just released the follow up song A Million Miles Away.

Tenth Avenue North continues to celebrate March Madness with their own 64 song bracket. Members of the band are asking their fans to select their favorite Tenth Avenue North song. The family of Kutless member Nick de Partee is growing. Nick announced over the weekend that baby de Partee is coming in October of 2014. Nick says prayers are appreciated.

A Bible Study based on the song Just Say Jesus by the group 7eventh Time Down is featured on the Interlinc web site. Interlinc is a site focused on using music and media in student ministry. The theme of the Just Say Jesus devotional is Hoping in God and web site writers say the goal is that students will understand that despite what they are facing, there is hope in Jesus. Fans who attend Christian concerts also sometimes bring some unique gifts. Audio Adrenaline lead singer Kevin Max says a woman gave him a Starwars quilt after one of their recent shows.

Aaron Shust was experiencing some dejavue over the weekend. The Morning Rises Tour was in Hays, Kansas and Aaron sent a picture of a fridge at the venue to his parents. The attached comment said: Hey Mom and Dad, look! It’s our old fridge! It’s underneath a stage here in Hays.

Worship leader Jaime Jamgochian prayed for God to rock their world prior to a concert in California over the weekend. But even Jaime wasn’t expecting quite as much response as they received. For the first time in Jaime’s carrier she says an earthquake took place while they were on stage. Jaime says they were so surprised by the 5.6 quake that they just ran off the stage. However, she adds that no one was hurt and, after things calmed down, they returned and finished out the night.

Tenth Avenue North partnered with Will Graham for a festival at Mississippi College over the weekend.

Protesters were out for the concert with Third Day, Skillet, Brandon Heath, Mandisa and more over the weekend. And Third Day guitarist Tai Anderson was struggling with his response. He tweeted: They can say what they want about my band, but when they insult our female fans, my inner hulk comes out. However, minutes later Tai also shared what he termed as the Third Day pastor’s rebuke to his anger toward protestors. Nigel James told him: “Tai, more of the Cross, less of the fit.”

Jamie Grace is featuring Mia Robertson this week on her I’m a fighter web site. Mia is one of the kids on the Duck Dynasty program and is also the focus of the Mia Moo Fund, a fund started by Jase and Missy Robertson after Mia’s cleft lip and palate surgery. Jamie started the I’m a Fighter web site to feature children, like Mia, who have suffered through illness or disease, so they can be an encouragement to others. Matthew West received a special package in the mail this week. His American Music Award received late last year, naming him Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist finally arrived.

The Irish band Rend Collective released their fourth album, The Art of Celebration, globally on St. Patrick’s Day. And, according to a report in New Release Tuesday, the response has been good. The album has given the band their biggest selling debut and has spent time at No. 1 as the best-selling album of any genre on iTunes and worldwide. With 18,433 albums sold in the first week, The Art of Celebration also hit No. 13 on the Top 200 and No. 1 on the Current Contemporary Christian Billboard retail charts, while simultaneously landing at No. 1 in the UK on the Christian/Gospel charts. The popularity of the GOD’S NOT DEAD movie has also resulted in a resurgence of the Newsboys 2011 CD by the same name. According to a report in the Christian Post, The God’s Not Dead CD climbed to number 5 on the iTunes Christian Albums chart this week. Likewise, the album’s title track has been the most downloaded Christian song since the film released, while God’s Not Dead-The Motion Picture Soundtrack continues to be a Top 10-selling general market soundtrack on iTunes.

Hillsong United’s White Album Remix Project is continuing to turn heads. The CD released on March 3. Phil Stacey is ready to head for home. The Christian artist and former finalist on American Idol has been on a month long tour of Asia, playing in a wide variety of venues around several different countries. He’ll be returning home on Monday. But he has another appearance this weekend before returning to the USA. Phil will be a guest artist on Indonesian Idol this evening (Friday).

Mercyme will be back on the stage of the Grand Ol’ Opry next week. The band will be making their third appearance on the well known stage on April 4th.

Chris Tomlin says your prayers are making a huge difference. The worship leader is part of the Passion global tour underway right now. And he says their trip has been incredible so far! Chris says it’s been amazing to see firsthand what God is doing all over the world.

The members of 7eventh Time Down have wrapped up their very first headlining tour. The guys in the band thanked everyone for coming out to the “Just Say Jesus” tour presented by Food for the Hungry. They say they were humbled and blown away by the support. 7enth time down has a couple of weeks off before heading out again. This time they will be traveling with the Newsboys on the We Believe Tour.

Kutless member Nick Departee is back on the road after a quick stop at home. The Kutless guitarist said he had just 48 hours to catch his breath before heading back out on the groups Change A Life Tour.

The U.S. portion of Steven Curtis Chapman’s The Glorious Unfolding tour recently wrapped up after making stops in 55 cities across the country. The tour included more than 30 sold out concerts as well as
career defining performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City and Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. But although the U.S. run is finished, Steven says the tour isn’t over. Just this week he announced that they will continue The Glorious Unfolding Tour with stops in select cities across Canada beginning in May.

The kickstarter project started by Shane and Shane is winding down. The fund raising effort for The Worship Initiative has already surpassed the project goal by over $20,000. But the Shane’s still need $30,000 to reach their secondary goal of funding a new album based on songs from the Psalms. The kickstarter project wraps up on Friday. The ultimate goal of the project is to provide resources for musicians to enable them to lead worship in their local church.

A bit of trivia about Aaron Shust. The Christian artist says he prefers the top bunk on the tour bus. Aaron says it has the most sway, the most room, and you get to hear the rain on the roof right above you.

TobyMac has released another facebook post encouraging his fans to speak life. Tobymac says: Compassion is being deeply aware of what someone else is suffering and reaching out to help alleviate their pain. He added: This week SPEAK LIFE by showing compassion to some one around you. Be inspired. Go inspire.

The latest release from Matthew West is striking a cord. One listener tweeted: Can we all agree that “Do Something” by Matthew West is the official mission trip slide show song of the year? It’s perfect!

Paul Baloche is again being reminded of how fragile life can be. One month ago this week Paul boarded a Malaysian Airline flight to travel to Beijing, China. It was just one week later that a plane on the exact same route disappeared from radar. This week, as officials announced that they have finally found the wreckage of the plane, Paul was reminded again of the brevity of life. He tweeted: Treasure each day you have with those you love.

The new Kari Jobe CD Majestic is now available. And Kari recently sat down to talk about the first release from the new project, titled forever. Kari says the goal was to write a song that would bring glory to Jesus and paint the picture of the crucifixion. An Addison Road reunion took place this week. David Crowder announced plans for what he is calling “a get-together at a little thing called the Grand Ole Opry”. David and his band Crowder will be playing on the legendary stage on May 31st and he says he’s honored to be kicking off the summer at the Grand Ole Opry.

Casting Crowns is in the midst of their spring Thrive tour. And Mark Hall says: God is doing big things on the tour! The bands lead singer reported that People are trusting Jesus, Families are healing, and Believers are digging in and reaching out! Mark added: Pray for us and join us!

The latest song from the Irish band Rend Collective is titled “My Lighthouse”. And band members recently sat down to talk with the Christian music web site New Release Tuesday about the song. Members of the band said: For us, it has become a picture of the faithfulness of God and His constancy in our lives. He is this unshifting Light. We all go through seasons of storms, troubles and sorrows, and we can count on Jesus to be that Fire before us the same way He led the children of Israel in the desert by Fire. Sidewalk Prophets members Ben and Justin were doing something a little different over the weekend. They delivered pastries to the homeless in a park near their venue.
Matthew West recently sat down with Family Christian stores to talk about the response to his request for stories from his fans. Matthew reported that, in the last three years, he’s received well over 25,000 stories. In fact, Matthew says it’s no longer about getting songs for one more record. He says it is just part of his process now. And Matthew promises that, that as long as people share their stories, he will read them and turn as many of them as he can into hopefully inspiring music that will challenge and inspire other people. The Passion World Tour moved through India over the weekend. Kristian Stanfill tweeted a picture of several members of the team taking a rickshaw ride, adding: we need these in Atlanta. Fellow worship leader Chris Tomlin said Delhi, India was on fire. He asked for prayer as they continue their tour in Manila this week.

Newsboys member Michael Tait recently talked with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association about the amazing response to their new song We Believe. The song was the first track on the My Hope CD released last fall in connection with the My Hope America with Billy Graham outreach and is also on Restart, the latest project from the Newsboys. The Sidewalk Prophets have picked a new guitarist. Shaun Tomzak decided to step away from the group at the end of 2013 to spend more time with his family. Early in 2014 the band opened online auditions and received nearly 100 video applications. After narrowing the list, they brought in the top eight to interview in person. At the end of that process, the Sidewalk Prophets say they selected Dan Macow (Muh’-cow) from California as their new guitarist.
Tiffany Lee, known onstage as the artist Plumb, is wrapping up her tour with Winter Jam this month. The sale of a Kutless CD will help to feed quite a few kids. The band donated a CD to be auctioned off at a charity auction over the weekend and it sold for $100. Organizers say the money will allow them to feed 50 kids for one month.
Chris August was kicking off the baseball season over the weekend. He was in town for a concert so spent the afternoon enjoying a Cubs and White Sox spring training game. Chris says it was a great way to prepare for the show!
Congratulations to Hillsong United. Their White album-Remix has become the first gospel album ever to go Number 1 on the USA Billboard Dance and Electronic chart.
Kristian Stanfill says the Passion stop in the United Arab Emirates was one he will never forget. Kristian was just one of several Passion artists tweeting after a crowd of 4,600 gathered in Abu Dhabi for Passion UAE. It was the first stop on the Passion World Tour and also featured Pastor Louie Giglio “proclaiming the love and grace of God over these beautiful people”.
Both Colton Dixon and the members of Love and the Outcome had a unique experience over the weekend. They had the chance to take a ride on the spinning drum set used by Newsboys Drummer Duncan Phillips. Following the ride Colton tweeted: I have no clue how Duncan does it. He added that just riding the drum set was quite a workout
Aaron Shust was cheering on the town of Columbus, Georgia after the Morning Rises Tour stop in the community over the weekend. Aaron said 10% of those in attendance sponsored children through Compassion International that evening. Aaron added: Way to go Columbus!

Christy Nockels recently wrote a blog about rest. In the blog the Atlanta based worship leader with the Passion Church tells about searching for a house in the area when she and her family originally moved to the community. One of the last houses they looked at had Matthew 11:29 engraved on the front porch. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” That verse was just what she needed and the house eventually became their home. It’s been a record-breaking week for Jason Gray. According to Christian Music archive, his current album Love Will Have The Final Word debuted on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart at No. 10. That is the highest album debut ever for Jason Gray.

The members of the Sidewalk Prophets were recently recording a new music video. And it sounds like it will be an interesting production. Sidewalk Prophets lead singer Dave Fray announced on facebook: Spent 7 hours covered in thick, red, sticky paint. I even got some up my nose, but it’s gonna be a great music video!

Another Christian movie will be coming out soon. According to an article in Breaking Christian News, the “Ragamuffin” Movie about Rich Mullins is set to release in select theaters on Friday, May 2. Brandon Heath is encouraging his team to check in. Brandon has formed a team to join him in raising money for clean water in Africa by only drinking water and donating what you would have spent on coffee or pop to the cause. Brandon says that, Two weeks in to the save a drink, save a life effort, he’s put away almost $150. Now he wants to hear from the rest of the team. And it sounds like he could use a little encouragement. Brandon asked the rest of the team if they were craving a latte as much as he was.

Jimmy Needham is celebrating the great response to his latest kickstarter project. Jimmy ended up raising just over $60,000. The money will allow him to record a CD titled Make the Gospel Rhyme and also a Christmas EP. The EP is slated for release in time for the holidays and Jimmy says he hopes to have the new CD out in early 2015. Jimmy tweeted: Thanks to everyone who was a part of this!
